Chateau Montet - Bordeaux @@@ (3 corks)

Retails: $5.99 (Total Wine)

I'm not horribly familiar with Bordeaux wines, but I do know that like many other kinds of wine produced in France, a Bordeaux is technically any wine produced in the Bordeaux region of France. Wine in this region is said to have started in Roman times, 48 AD is one estimation. That's one of the things i love about wine enormously is how historically important it is.

Any interesting fact, all wine producers in Bordeux prefix their brand name with chateau (sha-tow). Traditionally, the word means "castle" in French. However, in Bordeaux, no matter how humble the producer's estate may be, they are all "chateau's."

I'll be honest, the pink label really caught my eye. Chateau Montet's reasonably priced varietal needs to breathe for atleast ten minutes. Right out of the bottle it's not particularly good. There's a weird tart aftertaste initially that goes away with some breathing time. Given proper time, it has a nice robust flavor with a slightly cigar-smoke-y after taste. I'm consuming it with garlic fish and noodles and it's a lovely compliment.
