Bolla - Bardolino @@@@ (4 corks)

Retails: $8.29 (Total Wine)

I have a routine when I shop for wine. I usually head right for the wine picks to see what's new and recommended in the world of wine. This time though, I decided to bypass my usual route in favor of exploring formerly overlooked territory: the Italian Reds section.
To an average wine drinker, the Italian Reds section is quite daunting. Not only are you venturing into sacred territory, you're also contending with a bunch of bottles in a completely different language. Oh, but what a gorgeous language it is.
I'll be honest, when I shop in Italian Reds, I go almost entirely by how gorgeous sounding the title is. Bardolino...sounds like a hot Italian model--one of those one-namer types, like Iman.
My initial reaction wasn't positive, definitely needed some time to breathe, but after a few minutes of open-air time, Bardolino delivered. Smooth, sweet in the beginning and slightly dry in the finish. I had it last night with leftover lasagna, today I enjoyed it beside some spicy tuna rolls, both were equally satisfying pairings.
Like visiting another country, my adventure in Italian reds has been gratifying so far, I'm anxiously looking forward to my next delightful bottle.
