I work with amazing people. Seriously. I don't dread going to work every day. My co-workers and I actually enjoy each other so much so that even when we were on the road for months together every day we'd still have lunch together when we were back in the office.
So, now that I'm not on the road anymore, my girl friends and I get together and have a girls' rendez-vous. It usually consists of thrift store shopping (Plato's Closet being a favorite) and eating copious amounts of food (usually brownies).

This particular girls' night, we decided to enhance our evening activities with a bottles under $10 wine tasting. There were five of us: myself, Pineapple, S. Breezy Fo sheezey , Sunshine, and the newest member, Mrs. Almighty (my boss' wife). Everybody brought a bottle under $10 to blog about --- EXCEPT Mrs. Almighty, who happened to have a bottle of Provencia di Pavia Pino Noir hanging around her closet (retails: $30, FAIL)
So, our under $10 line up was unusual but interesting:
Allegro - Muscato
Canyon Oaks - Merlot Rose
Beringer - Merlot (courtesy of S. Breezy)
Washington Hills-Riesling (courtesy of Madame Pineapple)
and a random bottle of Chambourg (courtesy of Sunshine...not that I'm surprised, apparently the WINE memo didn't make it...though she was trying to convince us that she heard it sweetens up dry wines---Sunshine is a sugar addict!)
Of course, everyone comes to the wine tasting table with their own set of preferences and personalities...
Mrs. Almighty the token light-weight. We went out to a wine bar once, two drinks in we were done for the night. My boss enjoyed telling everyone, including his father (owner of the company), how "I got his wife drunk." Lies. All. Lies. Current favorite: An $80 bottle of Pinot she had once, otherwise strictly Chard.
Pineapple is a classic wine neophyte--sweet whites for the moment, but open to new territory. Current favorite includes: Relax-Riesling (thanks to yours truly).
S. Breezy (Fo Sheezey) is a wine enthusiast and seasoned traveler -- she's my freelancer who rocks the socks off of New Jersey (http://www.visitnj.org/ kids)
Sunshine is filled with sugary goodness. Sweet whites only, anything containing less sugary sweetness than Mike n' Ikes is strictly forbidden.
Anywho, so the next few entries will be a collaboration of sorts from my notes taken during our Girls' Night. First up...
Allegro - Moscato @@@@@ (5 corks!!!)
Retails: $9.99 (Total Wine)
This wine was a giant hit with the gals. I can't take credit for finding it, though. My dear friend http://www.amonfocus.com/ introduced me to it. We were doing some videos in Orlando, his old turf back in his post-college days. We had a random afternoon off due to some bad weather and so he decided to take me on a journey around his old stomping grounds. We went to Altamont, where he used to live, and popped in a wine shop that was within walking distance of his old apartment. Cute place. All of the wines were categorized by flavor as opposed to varietal. He told me I had to try this one, this was his "lady's wine"--the wine he'd buy to drink with a girl he um, liked.
So, I definitely needed to see if it passed the test! Most of us agreed DELISH! S. Breezey gave it a 4.5, Sunshine gave it a six (apparently...5 just wasn't enough), and Pineapple gave it a five. Mrs. Almighty, however, couldn't stand the sugary-sweetness and gave it... a zero. Y'ouch. :)
Final words: Definitely a delicious dessert wine or even an every day wine if you happen to be a sugar addict and/or a wine newby. Yum!
MORE TO COME...
